The posts within the High School (Lise) – include the possibility of teaching at ‘IB’ Diploma level for suitable candidates. All of these subjects are taught throughout the school in English. For all positions, knowledge of and familiarity with the UK National Curriculum and/or other national/state curricula is sought and at ‘IB’ level, experience of ‘IB’/’A’ level/AP or equivalent is necessary. All applicants should hold a relevant degree and teaching qualification.
Teaching and Learning Mentor for Mathematics
Required for September 2010. This is a new position in which the successful applicant will teach for a small proportion of his/her time and additionally will work with Mathematics teachers to develop teaching and learning approaches within the classroom. An experienced teacher is sought with outstanding teaching success. This mentor will work within the Elementary Department (students ages 5-14 years) and will have a colleague undertaking the same responsibilities in the Lise (14-18 years).
Work Visas:
For visa approval, the Turkish Ministries of Education and Labor require that a teacher have:
- an undergraduate college/university degree in the subject to be taught
- a teaching credential in that subject.
There are virtually no exceptions to these requirements.
Contract Period and Remuneration:
The initial contract for all teachers is two years; thereafter, extensions are for one or two-year periods. All foreign-hire teachers are provided housing on campus as well as round-trip air transport, a shipping allowance, health and life insurance, an annual bonus in lieu of pension, and free tuition for children attending Koç. Many foreign-hire teachers find that they are able to save a substantial portion of their salaries due to the low cost of living in Turkey and the benefits provided by the school.
While a written contract outlines the teacher's relationship to the school, it is the intention of the school to engage only teachers who are committed to doing an outstanding job whatever the time and effort required. We look for those who view their responsibilities in an overall professional context rather than as fulfilling specific terms of a contract. The school's salaries and benefits are designed to reward teachers who are able to make such a commitment.
