Message from the director
At Koç Elementary School, students aged between 6-15 years are offered a rich learning environment that includes mother language, science, arts, foreign language, general culture and social activities in line with the goals indicated in the Law of National Education, while being fully adhered to Atatürk’s Principles and Revolutions.
In this environment, students:
- learn basic knowledge and skills as well as the methods to access knowledge,
- discover their interests and abilities, and are provided with the opportunities to develop themselves,
- prepare for higher education institutions as well as for life itself,
- learn how to use and increase their mental, sensory, physical and social potentials,
- learn how to read and understand and interpret what they read, and acquire reading habit,
- learn how to write, and how to express their thoughts and feelings in oral and written forms of language, and
- grow up as individuals with self-confidence and self-discipline.
New educational approaches such as creative thinking, critical thinking, inquisitive learning, active learning, cooperation-based learning and project-based learning are adopted in our school.
Educational strategies and assessment methods that will help the students unfold their creativity, recognize themselves, develop self-discipline and feeling of responsibility; and enable them to learn and explore the ways to access knowledge.
Teachers and education specialists manage the educational process effectively, focusing not only on “what is learned and how much is learned” but also on “how it is learned”!
VKV Koç Elementary School’s education policy stipulates achieving highest level of student and teacher performance in an education environment, where individual differences between students are taken into consideration, while ensuring continuous development.
In connection with this, students:
explore knowledge rather than memorize it, learn through cooperation rather than competition,
learn permanently learning rather than temporarily, work on their shortcomings in order to correct and complete them. Full-day education program is conducted in the school. In addition to Turkish, Math, Science and Technology courses stipulated in the curriculum prepared by the National Education Ministry; Music, Visual Arts, Technology and Design and PE courses are given. Computer classes, too, are conducted as appropriate for each grade level. Extra curricular activities, educational excursions and onsite education are considered important. All educational work functions are carried out by experienced and carefully selected teachers and educators. Excellent homeroom teachers and course teachers work cooperatively and in harmony. Homeroom teachers are specialized in the 1st stage (Grades 1, 2 and 3) education. In Grades 4 and 5, homeroom teachers who are specialized in Math, Turkish, Science and Technology and Social Sciences carry out education on a shared basis. Classes are conducted by course teachers in Grades 6, 7 and 8. Department Heads ensure integrity and unity between program and application. English language classes and the classes that are conducted in English are mainly given by native-speaker teachers.
In Kindergarten, student placement is so arranged as to have equal number of girls and boys in all 3 sections. It has been planned to have a total of 16 students in each class. In 1st Grade, newly enrolled students and the students coming from Kindergarten are so arranged as to have equal number of girls and boys in all 5 sections. There are total18 students in each section.
As of the academic year 2011-2012, new students will be enrolled in 4th grade, which is the lowest grade level for enrollment through selective examination. Classes may vary between 24 and 26. In the beginning of every year, all students in Grades 4, 6, 7 and 8 are mixed up and redistributed.
In Grades 6, 7 and 8, French, German or Spanish languages are offered as elective second foreign language course. A 6th Grade student who chooses one of these languages will have to continue taking it until the end of 8th Grade.
